Date: December 2018- February 2019
Location: Kochi, India

Introspection was first shown as a collateral project at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2018. The project was on view at the Cochin Club grounds from December 2018 to February 2019. Considered Michelle Poonawalla’s seminal work, it has often been termed as a striking, immersive experiential artwork born from a sense of discomfort and unease with the way images of violence and displacement are consumed today. Developing on her experiments with digital technology, Poonawalla turned to sound, using a combination of audio clips from newsreels and ambient recordings to uncanny effect. Combining these sounds with motion sensor technology and digitally mapped visuals, the experience created an all-consuming sensorium. The work had been exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery, London (as part of START, September 2019); Alserkal Avenue, Dubai (Dubai Art Week, March 2019); and as a collateral project at the Kochi Biennale, India (Kochi-Muziris).
