From Dust to Dust

A series of stop motion video artworks produced during lockdown. The precise and slow technique represent a meditative process during Poonawalla’s time in lockdown, creating a series of contemplative and precise works which address some of the ongoing challenges in the world.

Titled after the phrase ‘from ashes to ashes, dust to dust’ the work is a reflection on nature’s ability to humble humanity – something Poonawalla sees as an important message we need to take away from the Covid-19 pandemic. The virus dominates every aspect of the world as if it was a sign from mother earth putting humanity in its place and peoples ideas in perspective. However powerful you may be, life is always transient, the single dying rose is a vivid representation of this.
